CNC Wood Router

The RGS Motorized Retrofit Kit adds motor-driven motion to your TrueTrac Router Gantry System. It gives you CNC-style slab flattening without buying a CNC router, and without CAD, CAM software or G-code.

It bolts onto the gantry you already have. If you don't own one yet, start with the Router Gantry System.

A CNC alternative built for slab flattening

A full CNC router is built to engrave, cut shapes and carve in 3D. If all you need is flat slabs, you're paying for a big machine and a software learning curve you'll rarely use. The RGS kit does one job: it moves the router across the slab with a motor-driven rack gear, so every pass is smooth and even.

Available sizes

Three standard configurations fit the most common gantry layouts:

  • 4ft x 8ft or smaller. For compact setups. If yours is smaller, note the size at checkout.
  • 4ft x 12ft. Fits units with three 55-inch rails on the long axis.
  • 4ft x 17ft. Fits units with four 55-inch rails on the long axis.

The kit can be extended beyond 17ft. If you have a 6ft (72-inch) capacity bridge, add the 72 Inch Bridge Extension Kit for extra reach.

Why upgrade with the RGS kit

  • No programming. Motion comes from a motor-driven rack gear, not G-code.
  • Bolt-on. It upgrades your existing TrueTrac gantry instead of replacing it.
  • Even passes. Motorized movement keeps the router speed steady across the slab, which means a more consistent surface and less sanding.
  • Sized to your setup. Standard sizes plus extension kits for longer or wider slabs.
  • Made in the USA.

CNC Slab Flattening and Retrofit Kit - FAQs

Is the RGS Motorized Retrofit Kit a CNC router?

No. A CNC router follows programmed tool paths to cut shapes, engrave and carve. The RGS kit adds motor-driven motion to a router gantry for one job, flattening slabs, and doesn't use CAD, CAM or G-code.

Do I need a TrueTrac Router Gantry System?

Yes. The kit is designed to bolt onto TrueTrac gantry setups. You can add it to your gantry at any time.

What is a CNC router retrofit kit?

A kit that adds motorized control to equipment you already own, so you don't have to buy a full CNC machine. The TrueTrac RGS kit does this for slab flattening.

Does it need CNC software or programming?

No. There's no CAD, CAM or G-code. The motor-driven rack gear handles the movement.

How is it different from a generic CNC router kit?

Generic CNC kits are built for engraving, cutting shapes and complex tool paths. That flexibility adds cost and learning time. The RGS kit only flattens slabs, so it's simpler to set up and use.

Is a retrofit cheaper than buying a CNC machine?

Usually. You're adding motion to a gantry you already own, rather than paying for a full machine, software and training.

What size slabs can it handle?

Standard kits cover 4ft x 8ft, 4ft x 12ft and 4ft x 17ft gantries. Longer setups are possible with extension kits, and the 72 Inch Bridge Extension Kit adds reach on 6ft capacity bridges.

How do you get a smoother finish when flattening slabs?

Keep each pass consistent, use the right bit and keep the router moving at a steady speed. Motorized movement helps with the last part, because the router doesn't speed up or slow down the way it can when pushed by hand.
